About Upazila Atlas

Upazila Atlas is a reference guide to the administrative map of Bangladesh: every division, district and upazila on its own page, with census population, area, density and the union parishads below it.

Bangladesh is divided into 8 divisions, 64 districts (zila) and about 500 upazilas, which are split again into union parishads. We give each district and upazila a page with its 2022 census population, area, population density, its place in national and district rankings, the list of unions, postcode, official website and the nearest neighbouring upazilas.

We do not publish news. Figures come from Wikidata, where population counts follow the Population and Housing Census 2022 of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics as first published: the district totals add up to about 165 million, the preliminary count; the final adjusted national figure released later is 169.8 million. City corporation areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi are run by metropolitan thanas rather than upazilas, so the upazilas of those districts do not add up to the district total.

Union parishads with enough recorded facts have their own page: Bengali and English name, BBS geocode, postcode, official website, area and, where recorded, the population, households, women and men counted by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (mostly the 2011 census, as recorded in Wikidata), with the nearest unions measured between recorded centres.
